Hieronymos II or Ieronymos II ( Greek Ιερώνυμος Β´ ; real name: Ioánnis Liápis Ιωάννης Λιάπης ; born March 10, 1938 in Inofita , Boeotia ) is a Greek Orthodox clergyman. Since 2008 he has been Archbishop of Athens and Head of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece .

Life

Hieronymos II. - his real name Ioánnis Liápis - was born in the Central Greek region of Boeotia in 1938 and comes from an Arvanite family. First, Liápis graduated from Orthodox theology . The ordination as a deacon took place in 1967, also in 1967 the ordination as a priest . On October 4, 1981, Ioánnis Liápis was ordained an Orthodox bishop . He also acted as chief secretary of the Holy Synod of Greece . He was elected Archbishop of Athens on February 7, 2008. The solemn consecration as Archbishop of Athens took place on February 16, 2008.
