The Chuuk International Airport (formerly Truk is) an airport near Weno on the main island of the state of Chuuk the Federated States of Micronesia .

Flights and destinations

As with other islands in this region, there are hardly any commercial air services due to the low population and tourist numbers. The only scheduled flight services for Chuuk Airport are the Island Hopper (see Island Hopping ) from United Airlines (formerly Continental Micronesia ) with an operation between Guam , Honolulu (three times a week in each direction) and the Guam-Chuuk- Pohnpei flight, which, however only takes place once a week in each direction. Air Niugini also flies the Port Moresby , Chuuk, Pohnpei route once a week .

irregularities

On September 28, 2018, 9:30 a.m. (UTC + 10), a Boeing 737-800 (aircraft registration P2-PXE) of Air Niugini from Pohnpei landed in the lagoon in front of runway 04 in heavy rain and reduced visibility and came about 150 Meters before succumbing. 46 out of 47 occupants (35 passengers and 12 crew members) survived the incident. 4 people suffered serious injuries, 4 others were only slightly injured.
