The Pohnpei International Airport ( IATA : PNI, ICAO : PTPN) is an airport on Pohnpei , one of the Federated States of Micronesia belonging island. It is located about two kilometers north of the city of Kolonia on the small island of Dekehtik offshore from Pohnpei . As the only airport on Pohnpei, it also supplies the Micronesian capital Palikir .

Destinations and airlines

United Airlines operated the only international flights until early January 2018. Formerly served also Air Nauru and Aloha Airlines Airport. The Micronesian Caroline Islands Air operates the airport in charter traffic and is planning (as of January 2018) an international connection to Palau .

Incidents

On March 11, 2001, a Boeing 727 of the cargo airline Express One International flew from Majuro-Amata Kabua International Airport on the Marshall Islands to the airport, but had already touched the ground before the runway threshold and was badly damaged on the landing gear. During the repair work there was further damage, so that the aircraft had to be scrapped.
