John Bintliff

John Bintliff (* 1949 in London ) is a British classical archaeologist .

Life

Born in London, Bintliff studied archeology and anthropology at Cambridge University , where he received his Ph.D. about History and Prehistory of human settlement in Greece . He first worked as a lecturer , then as a senior lecturer in archeology at Bradford University , where he taught from 1977. Finally, in 1990, he moved to Durham University as a reader in archeology, where he taught until he was called to Leiden in 1999.

In 1988 he became a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries . Since 1978 he was co-director, together with Anthony Snodgrass of Cambridge University, of the Boeotia Project . In addition to archeology from prehistory to the Middle Ages, Bintliff deals with the theory of his subject.
