Holger Saturday

Holger Sonnabend (born April 29, 1956 in Hanover ) is a German ancient historian .

Holger Sonnabend studied history and German at the University of Hanover . In 1981 he passed the state examination. From 1982 to 1985 he worked for the Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy of the German Archaeological Institute in Munich. The doctorate took place in 1985 with Horst Callies with the work Foreign Image and Politics. Roman ideas of Egypt and the Parthian Empire in the Late Republic and Early Imperial Era . Since then, Sonnabend has been working at the Historical Institute of the University of Stuttgart , initially as a research assistant, then as a university assistant and university lecturer. The habilitation followed in 1993 with the thesis The Friendships of Scholars and Interstate Politics in Classical and Hellenistic Greece . Since December 1999, Sonnabend has been an extraordinary professor of ancient history in Stuttgart.

Saturday is a specialist in the historical geography of the ancient world. He is co-editor of the Orbis Terrarum magazine and, together with Eckart Olshausen, initiator and organizer of the Stuttgart Colloquium on the Historical Geography of Antiquity .
