Hilduin (Milan)

Hilduin († July 24, 936 ) was Bishop of Liège from 920 to 921 , Bishop of Verona from 928 to 932 and Archbishop of Milan from 932 until his death .

Life

Hilduin, a cleric from Liège, was appointed bishop of Liège in 920 after the death of Stephen of Tongeren. He had the support of Giselbert von Lothringen and the East Franconian King Heinrich I , the episcopal ordination took place by the Archbishop of Cologne Hermann I. There was, however, an opposing candidate, the Prümer Abbot Richer , who was led by the West Franconian King Karl III. was supported. Pope John X decided the conflict. He dedicated Richer on November 4, 921 bishop of Liege and excommunicated Hilduin which to Italy I. Hugo fled. There he became Bishop of Verona in 928 and Archbishop of Milan in 932.
