Served by the Metropolitan Line and the Piccadilly Line , the station was used by 1.63 million passengers in 2013.

history

The route of the Metropolitan Railway (predecessor company of the Metropolitan Line) between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Uxbridge existed since July 4, 1904 and was electrified six months later. For almost twenty years, the trains passed through here without stopping due to the low density of buildings. In order to develop new residential areas in the immediate vicinity, the Hillingdon station was subsequently built on the existing line and opened on December 10, 1923. Trains of the Metropolitan District Railway (predecessor of the District Line ) also stopped from day one .

The station was built in the simplest possible way and offered no comfort. In the beginning, this was completely sufficient, but with the increasing residential construction activity, the number of passengers rose steadily. There were more and more complaints from passengers, mainly complaining about the lack of toilets. Finally, on April 30, 1931, after three months of construction, the new station building was opened. On October 23, 1933, the trains of the District Line were replaced by those of the Piccadilly Line.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Western Avenue was expanded into a multi-lane expressway. For this reason, the station had to be relocated around 150 meters to the southwest. The new facility, which is completely covered with a glass roof, started operation on December 6, 1992 and was completed in 1994. While the original station building had to give way to the expressway, the new one has been a listed building since 2011.
