Hiltrud von Lissies

Hiltrud von Lissies (* in France ; † around 790 in Liessies ), venerated as a saint, was a count's daughter who lived as a recluse . Her feast day is September 27th.

Hiltrud came from a count's family from Hainaut in northern France on the border with the province of Hainaut in Belgium. She refused to marry a prince and preferred to live near her parents in the Lissies monastery (now Liessies), where her brother Gunthard was abbot . Her parents donated the monastery. Hiltrud lived there as a recluse in the strictest asceticism .

Hiltrud died at the end of the 8th century. The shrine and its bones were destroyed in 1793; the relics are still in Liessies.

Hiltrud is depicted as a virgin with a lamp and candle. She is considered the patron saint against fever.
