The Hindisvík is a bay at the northern tip of the peninsula Vatnsnes in northern Iceland . It is located on Vatnsnesvegur about 25 km north of the next larger town Hvammstangi (municipality of Húnaþing vestra ).
In the years 1923 to 1955, the pastor Sigurður Nordland (1895–1971) tried to settle fishermen here because he considered the place ideal for a harbor. However, this view was not shared, so the settlement was abandoned. Today there are still some old ruins of fishermen's houses and a fish factory.
Today the bay is best known for its large seal colony. Many sea birds such as eiders , gulls and oystercatchers can also be observed from the flat rocks of the bay. There is a breeding of so-called semi-wild Hindisvík horses . The bay is easy to hike and is good for wildlife observation.
