The headland at Hinkley Point with the power stations in the background

Hinkley Point is a headland on the Bristol Channel -Küste in Somerset ( England ), 5 mi (8 km) north of Bridgwater and 5 mi (8 km) west of Burnham-on-Sea, near the mouth of the River Parrett.

The exposed location made Hinkley Point ideal for the construction of wind power plants. However, the proposal to erect twelve wind turbines near the nuclear power plants was rejected in October 2005. The West Somerset District Council justified safety concerns that a rotor blade could come off and hit “something or someone”.
