Hinrich Schönenberg
Hinrich Schönenberg († around 1445 probably in Lübeck ) was a Lübeck brewer and briefly mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.
Life
Nothing is known about Schönenberg's origins. He was one of the citizens of Lübeck who, during the civil unrest at the beginning of the 15th century, also acted as a spokesman against the "old" Lübeck council, which was then expelled from the city in 1408 . He was a member of the Sixties Committee and the Citizens' Finance Committee . He negotiated (together with other citizens) with the mayors of the old council in 1408 Hinrich Westhof and Marquard von Dame about the addition of the Lübeck council after several councilors of the old council had left the city. In May 1408 he was also a member of the Citizens' Council Election Commission. As councilor and mayor of Lübeck in this time of change, Schönenberg has been handed down for the years 1412 until the return of the old council in 1416. In 1415 he was with Johann Growe and Elert Stange at the Council of Constance with King Sigismund and in 1416 in Copenhagen to negotiate the reinstatement of the old council from 1408. In July 1416 he tried (also together with Growe and Stange) to justify himself in Copenhagen because of the accusations made against King Erik VII of Denmark. After his return he (like other members of the New Council) was arrested at the instigation of the imperial envoy, who had meanwhile arrived in Lübeck, and only released again after he had promised to make a declaration of honor for Erik VII in front of Sigismund, which he shared with in 1417 Johann Growe and Marquard Schutte also did. In Lübeck citizens' wills he is listed several times as a documentary witness and guardian . He lived in the house at Hüxstrasse 45 in Lübeck .
