Elert Stange († 1418 in Lübeck ) was a German harness maker and brief mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

The wealthy harness maker Elert Stange, who has been living in Lübeck since 1382, was one of the citizens of Lübeck who exposed himself to the civil unrest at the beginning of the 15th century as a spokesman against the "old" Lübeck council, which was then expelled from the city in 1408 . He was a member of the Sixties Committee and the Citizens' Finance Committee . In 1408 he was immediately elected to the New Lübeck Council , where he was elected mayor of the city; this office he held for Emil Ferdinand Fehling "probably" until the return of the old council in 1416. He represented the New Council in the proceedings of the Old Council before the Court Court in Heidelberg . Stange was also a representative of Lübeck at the Hanseatic Days and at the Münzrezess . As a representative of Lübeck (together with the mayor Tidemann Steen ), however, he was not admitted as envoy there at the Hanseatic Congress in Lüneburg in 1412 . In 1415 he was together with Johann Growe and Hinrich Schönenberg at the Council of Constance with King Sigismund and in 1416 in Copenhagen to negotiate the re-establishment of the old council from 1408. In July 1416 he sought (also together with Schönenberg and Growe) to justify himself in Copenhagen on account of the accusations made against King Erik VII of Denmark. After his return he (like other members of the New Council) was arrested at the instigation of the imperial envoy, who had meanwhile arrived in Lübeck, and only released again after he had promised to make a declaration of honor for Erik VII in front of Sigismund. Because of his age-related impaired state of health, he could no longer start the journey in person and therefore promised to have this declaration made by an authorized representative, which also happened in 1417. In Lübeck citizens' wills he is listed several times as a documentary witness and guardian .

Elert Stange lived in the house property Sandstrasse 25 from 1382 , then from 1404 on Sandstrasse 13. 1403 was briefly the owner of the house at Königstrasse 25 .
