Hipólito Fernández Serrano , called Poli , (born March 20, 1977 in Seville ) is a Spanish football player who last played at Recreativo Huelva in the Spanish Segunda División .

Player career

Betis / Extremadura

Poli comes from the youth of Real Betis from his hometown Seville . After a year in the B team, he moved to FC Extremadura in 1997 . Already in the first season he and his team rose in Spain's elite league, after only one year, which turned out to be very disappointing overall. Poli spent three more years in the Segunda División before Extremadura in the Segunda División B descent.

Primera División

Poli, on the other hand, was drawn in the other direction. In the summer of 2002 he signed a contract with the first division club RCD Mallorca with whom he won the Copa del Rey in its premiere season and played in the Champions League . After winning the Cup, Poli and his team were again represented internationally the following season - this time in the UEFA Cup . Despite his regular place with the Mallorcans, he left them in 2005 to join the promoted Deportivo Alavés . The 2005/2006 season was very disappointing for Poli and so he was only used in nine league games. To make matters worse, Alavés was relegated to the end of the season on the last day of the season, as Espanyol Barcelona scored the decisive goal against Real Sociedad in the 92nd minute. Then Poli moved to the first division promoted Recreativo Huelva . He remained loyal to the club even after relegation in 2009 .
