Hippodameia (Pisa)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Greek mythology, Hippodameia is a daughter of King Oinomaos of Pisa in Elis and the Sterope, wife of Pelops and mother of several sons, including Atreus and Thyestes .

Pelops won Hippodameia in the chariot race against her father by deceit by stabbing Oinomaos during the chariot race and thus became king of Pisa. In addition to their sons, Pelops had other children, including his favorite son, the beautiful Chrysippus , whom Hippodameia hated because she feared that Pelops would make him an heir. She persuaded her sons Atreus and Thyestes to murder Chrysippus. When Pelops learned that Hippodameia was complicit in Chrysippus' death, she killed herself.
