Jonas
Jonas is a male given name and family name .
Origin and meaning
The Hebrew version of the name means dove and originally comes from the Greek word οιωνός for sign . In ancient Greece, it was believed that birds were sent to people as symbols of the gods. It is therefore assumed that the name Jonas stands for a peaceful being. The biblical version of the name includes the Hebrew meaning, but also includes the meaning destroyer and oppressor . As a variant of Jonah, the name can also be used as an achievement and gift from God .
