Yunus ( Arabic يونس, DMG Yūnus ) is an Arabic and Turkish male given name . The name is derived from Jonah , which in turn goes back to the Hebrew name Yonah , which means dove . An Arabic variant of the name is Yunis . The German-language form of the name is Jonas or Jona . In Turkish, the word “Yunus” also means dolphin (from Yunus Balığı , literally: the Jonas fish).
