Dean Jonas

Dean Jonas (born May 23, 1961 ) is an Antigua and Barbuda politician of the Antigua Labor Party . He has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2014 .

Education and career

Jonas grew up in Potters Village . He received his education at Judges Hill School and Potters Government School . This was followed by a degree in communications engineering at a university in England . After completing his training, he worked for many years in the telecommunications industry in his home country. He began his political career as a candidate in the 2009 general election . There he was defeated in the constituency of St. George against the incumbent Jacqui Quinn-Leandro of the United Progressive Party . In the 2014 elections he was then able to prevail against them with 54.51% of the vote. Although he won the highest number of votes in his party in absolute terms in this election, he was not considered in Prime Minister Gaston Browne's cabinet .
