The station was named after a nearby Chuvash village founded around 1700 , which was incorporated into the settlement in the 1980s. The station settlement grew rapidly and was already the administrative seat of a Ujesd for some time in the early 1920s .
On September 5, 1927, Ibressi became the administrative seat of the newly created Rajons named after him. In 1938 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement . Since the administrative reform in 2006, Ibressi has been classified as a rural settlement.
