history
The place goes back to a Russian Orthodox commune founded in 1896 and converted into a nunnery in 1901 . Not far from this, the direct railway connection Moscow - Kazan was later passed, and when the last section of Arsamas - Kanash was opened in 1918, a station was put into operation. The station and the associated settlement were named after the Wurnarka river there.
As a result of the settlement of a larger forestry enterprise, the settlement grew rapidly and on September 5, 1925 it became the administrative seat of a Rajon. On October 26, 1938, Wurnary was given urban-type settlement status . Since the administrative reform of 2006, Wurnary has been classified as a rural settlement.
