geography

history
The village was founded in 1745 and carried the Russified name Kugessewo or Kugeschewo until the 20th century. It goes back to a term in the Finno-Ugric language of the Mari , who settled in the area before they were displaced to the left Volga by Chuvash tribes from the 8th century .
Population growth accelerated in the 20th century and the village became the administrative seat of the Cheboksarsky rajon, founded in 1927, in 1931. In 1985 it was merged with the village of Baiderjakowo, with which it had effectively grown together. At the same time it received the status of an urban-type settlement . Since the administrative reform in 2006, Kugessi has been classified as a rural settlement.
