The Kubnja ( Russian Кубня , Chuvash Кӗтне , Tatar Гөбенә Göbenä ) is a 176 km long left tributary of the Swijaga in the European part of Russia .

course

The Kubnja rises in the northern Volga Heights in the southern center of the Chuvash Republic . It flows through the wooded landscape in a north-easterly direction before entering the open steppe a few kilometers from the border with the Republic of Tatarstan .

The river now runs largely along the border between Chuvashia and Tatarstan and its course marks this border in parts. Several of its larger tributaries such as the Al , Uta and Urjum , the largest of the tributaries, flow into this area .

About 30 km east of Kanasch the Kubnja crosses the border for the last time and now flows only in Tatar territory until its mouth. Here it turns to the east and reaches the Swijaga a few kilometers north of Burunduki , about 20 km before its confluence with the Volga .

Tourism and ecology

The Kubnja is mainly fed by rain. During the ice-free season, which lasts on average from April to late November / early December, the river is popular with boaters .

A problem for the ecology of the Kubnja is the increasing deforestation and agricultural use of its catchment area, especially by the agricultural holding OAO Krasny Wostok Agro, one of the largest agricultural production companies in Europe.
