Career
Kazlauskas played throughout his playing career (1973-1985) at the historic Lithuanian basketball club Vilnius Statyba , which is now known under the name Lietuvos rytas . His greatest achievement as a player was winning a bronze medal in the Soviet Basketball League in 1979.
Later he was also the coach of the two most successful basketball teams in Lithuania, Žalgiris Kaunas (1994-2000) and Lietuvos rytas (2000-2004). With these two teams he won the Lithuanian championship six times and in 2002 was "Lithuania's coach of the year". He also won the Eurocup with Žalgiris in 1998 and the Euroleague and the Northern European Basketball League in 1999 and again the Northern European Basketball League in 2002 with Lietuvos rytas. In between he was in charge of the Lithuanian national basketball team (1997-2001), with which he won the Baltic Cup in 1998 and the bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games . After these successful years in his home country, he moved to Greece to the Greek basketball club Olympiacos Piraeus . With Olympiacos he did not achieve any notable successes, but all the more so with the Chinese national basketball team , where he first worked as an assistant coach at Del Harris' side in 2004 and as head coach from 2005 to 2008. In 2005 he won the FIBA Asian Championships with his team and the Asian Games in 2006 after a 59:44 final victory over the Qatari national basketball team . In 2009 Kazlauskas became national coach of Greece and won bronze with her at the Eurobasket that same year . After his termination of his engagement with the Greek national team in 2010, he became the head coach of CSKA Moscow in 2011 . With CSKA he won the Russian championship in 2012 and was named “Russia's Coach of the Year”. Jonas Kazlauskas is one of the best basketball coaches in Europe.
