Hans von Geisau
Hans von Geisau (actually Johannes Franz August von Geisau ; born June 16, 1889 in Lüneburg , † March 13, 1972 in Warburg ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.
Life
Geisau passed his Abitur at the Matthias-Claudius-Gymnasium in Wandsbek in 1908. From 1908 to 1912 he studied classical philology and history at the University of Münster with a one-year study visit in Berlin in the winter semester of 1909 and summer semester of 1910 . He received his doctorate in classical philology in 1912 with the dissertation De Apulei syntaxi poetica et Graecanica commentatio philologica and then entered the school service, initially as a trainee teacher at the Paderborn grammar school (1912/13) and at the Hattingen secondary school (1914/15). He was then an assistant teacher in Hattingen (1915) and at the Paulinum grammar school in Münster (1916). In 1918 he also passed the French teaching examination. In 1919 he became a senior teacher at the Gelsenkirchen grammar school .
In 1927 Geisau became director of the Marianum grammar school in Warburg. Under allegations u. a. He was given a leave of absence from his director's office on September 5, 1933 because of “friendliness towards Jews” and “political unreliability” and, after being demoted as a teacher, was transferred to the Laurentianum grammar school in Arnsberg . In 1945 he was again appointed director of the high school in Warburg, which he held until his retirement in 1955. During his term of office, the renewal of the new humanist school concept as a Christian-humanistic grammar school, the renaming of the grammar school Marianum and the planning and the start of the fundamental renovation of the historical monastery building for school purposes.
Act
Hans von Geisau was the author of ancient philological commentaries, especially Latin authors and texts, as well as contributions to Greek mythology. During his compulsory leave of absence as a director, he wrote several books for classical school lessons. He also wrote articles for Pauly-Wissowa, particularly on Greek mythology. After his retirement he dealt with the history of the city of Warburg . B. to the battle of Warburg , Peter Hille etc.
