Hippocrates autocrator Nikephorus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hippocrates autocrator Nikephorus was a king with a Greek name who was possibly in the Charakene around 81/80 BC. Ruled. So far he is only known from one coin in a private collection on which the name Hippocrates is only preserved as ... pokrates. The coin goes back to the Seleucid era in the year 81/80 BC. Dated. On the front it shows the ruler in profile, on the back there is a throne Zeus . The image of the ruler is reminiscent of the coin depictions of Seleucus VI. There are probably two other coins of the ruler on which his name can only be partially read and which have therefore remained undetected. A coin from the King of Elymais , Kamnaskires III. and the Anzaze is an overprint of an older coin of Hippocrates. Tiraios II , King of the Charakene struck another coin of the king. Stylistically, the coin of Hippocrates hardly matches that of the Elymais, which is why he was probably a rather brief reigning usurper in the Charakene. The title autocrator was used several times during this time by usurpers.
