Bruno Griesser (born December 30, 1889 in Oetz ; † August 21, 1965 in Bregenz ) was an Austrian Cistercian and church historian .

life and work

Joseph Griesser, son of a Tyrolean farmer, lost his mother a week after the birth. He attended the Vinzentinum grammar school in Brixen , then the Franziskanergymnasium in Hall in Tirol , which he graduated in 1909. After briefly studying theology in Innsbruck , following in the footsteps of his compatriot Kassian Haid , he entered the Cistercian territorial abbey Wettingen-Mehrerau near Bregenz in 1910 , accepted the religious name Bruno and made his solemn profession in May 1914 . On 28 June 1914 he received in Feldkirch the priesthood .
