Antoine-Hippolyte Pixii (* 1808 ; † 1835 ) was a French instrument maker in Paris .

His father was the instrument maker Nicolas Constant Pixii (- Dumotiez ) (1776–1861).

Hippolyte Pixii learned his father's profession and built instruments for André-Marie Ampère and Claude Servais Mathias Pouillet in the 1820s .

In 1831 Michael Faraday presented his magneto-electric machine , a copper disk rotating between the poles of a horseshoe magnet, from which he took direct current with sliding contacts.

In 1832 Pixii built the first alternating current generator, based on the principle of electromagnetic induction discovered by Faraday . Pixiis device containing a generator driven by a hand crank rotating magnet , which is located at a coil with iron core moving past. He could use it to generate sparks several millimeters long. Jean Nicolas Pierre Hachette reported to the Academy of Sciences on September 3rd, whereupon the Pixii Academy awarded the third prize on November 19th.

Since alternating current was unsuitable for galvanic experiments, Pixii built the first generator for pulsating direct current in 1833 using a rocker proposed by Ampère as a commutator .

His studio existed until 1860.
