Hirschengraben (Bern)
The Hirschengraben is a place in the city of Bern ( Switzerland ).

The Hirschengraben is located southwest of Bubenbergplatz and northwest of Bundesgasse near the train station .
history
From 1757 to 1877, deer and other animals were kept in the ditch off the west-northwest flank of the Christoffel bastion. The name Hirschengraben was carried over to the square that was created in 1877 by filling it up. In the same year the square was planted with two rows of trees. In 1914, the Widmann fountain named after Joseph Victor Widmann was built as a southern end . In 1930 the Bubenberg memorial was erected on the north side.
