history
On September 9, 1896, the local council decided to erect the Bubenberg memorial on the square then known as Christoffelplatz because of its proximity to the Christoffelturm . The monument was unveiled on the opening day of the Bernese cantonal shooting festival, on September 18, 1897. Since 1898 the square has been officially called Bubenbergplatz according to the monument. After a few years, the monument was surrounded by an ornamental grille on its stone base. The center of the square was given a new look. The trees had grown stately and, together with the monument, formed a focal point. On March 23, 1930, the memorial was dismantled on the occasion of a redesign and rebuilt on May 19, 1930 at the current location at Hirschengraben . A tram shunting field was installed in the original place of the monument. In 1934 the redesign of the square was completed. Between 1971 and 1976 the square was rebuilt again. On the one hand the underpasses and on the other hand the Tramperrons were built.
