location

The street, which is only about 80 meters long, connects the market with Wirtelstraße . It is developed as a pedestrian zone and only accessible for delivery traffic at certain times .

history

The Hirschgasse was mentioned in a document in 1556. It was within the city fortifications of Düren . At that time, on the corner of Wirtelstrasse, the house “Zum Roten Hirsch”, also written as Heirtz or Hirtz, was written. In 1792 the Emundis aldermen lived in the house .

In the city map from around 1903, Hirschgasse is still marked as a dead end from Wirtelstrasse and not connected to Pangsgasse, which branches off from Zehnthofstrasse.

On March 22, 1953, the city council decided to keep the name Hirschgasse for the alley that had meanwhile been extended to the market square.
