history
In older times two names changed for this street, on the one hand Weilerstrasse (Wilrestrasse), because from there the route went to Arnoldsweiler , and on the other hand Wirtelstrasse (Werdenilstrasse). It was first mentioned in 1340.
Wenzel Hollar calls the city gate "Weilerpfort" in his city map from 1634. The gate was demolished in 1834. The road used to be sparsely developed and had an agricultural character. The street became livelier when the cloth factory of Philipp Schoeller, later Leopold Schoeller Söhne, was moved from the market to there.
