Basic Blue 26 is a dark purple cationic dye from the group of triphenylmethane dyes , which dissolves in water with a blue color.

Extraction and presentation

Basic Blue 26 can be produced by condensation of Michler's ketone with N- phenyl-1-naphthylamine .

properties

The dark blue-violet powder or the dark-bronze colored crystals are easily soluble in hot water and in ethanol . It is poorer in cold water and only sparingly soluble in benzene . It dyes tannic cotton and is not very lightfast.

use

The dye is approved as a dye for cosmetics and food in many countries, but not in the EU , India, Japan and the USA .
