Hirschl Mayr (* in Vienna ; † after 1673 in Nikolsburg ) was a Jewish court factor in Vienna.

Life

Hirschl Mayr stood out in the Jewish history of Vienna and Lower Austria . His origin is uncertain, his family probably came from Vienna, in the land register from 1632 there is a Solomon Mayr , perhaps his father. Hirschl Mayr was first mentioned in 1651, when a Jewish woman was shot and the community council was suspected. Emperor Ferdinand III. In 1652 decided not only to tax the Viennese Jewish community, but also the Jews of Lower Austria. Mayr Hirschl took over the post of tax farmer, i.e. the hated collector. According to Ferdinand III. This was implemented in 1670, Hirschl Mayr, like many Viennese Jews, went into exile in Moravian Nikolsburg, where he died. In 1673 he was still involved in negotiations with representatives from Vienna about the return of at least the richer Jews to Wischau .

The brothers Marcus and Hirschl Mayr were sons of Lazarus Mayr († 1710), like their father, major creditors in Vienna alongside Samson Wertheimer, and after 1715 were among the main financiers of the Karlskirche .
