The História da Colonização Portuguesa do Brasil ( History of the Portuguese Colonization of Brazil ) is a Portuguese historical work in three volumes.

The work, which focuses on the exploration of the 15th and 16th centuries in both Portuguese and Brazilian history , was published by the Litografia Nacional (National Printing Office ) in Porto between 1921 and 1924 on the occasion of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Brazilian independence .

It is a collective work of monumental nature that brings together studies by some of the most important Portuguese and Brazilian historians of the time, such as Jaime Cortesão and Carlos Malheiro Dias . The book project was under the direction and literary coordination of the Portuguese writer and historian Carlos Malheiro Dias, the cartographic director was the Portuguese scientist, vice admiral, professor and geographer Ernesto de Vasconcelos , and the artistic director was the Portuguese watercolorist Roque Gameiro . It is richly illustrated. The documents it contains include the letter to King Manuel I of Portugal ( Carta ao Rei D. Manuel I de Portugal ) by Pêro Vaz de Caminha , edited by Carolina Michaëlis de Vasconcelos , professor of philology at the Faculdade de Letras of the University of Coimbra , and the facsimile of D. Manuel's Letter to the Catholic Kings ( Carta de D. Manuel aos Reis Católicos ) of July 29, 1501, together with its current language version.

The individual volumes deal with the following topics:

1. Os precursores de Cabral ("The precursors of Cabral ")
2. A epopéia dos litorail ("The Epopoeia of the Coasts")
3. A Idade Média Brasileira ("The Brazilian Middle Ages") from the period between 1521 and 1580.

It says about the project:

“A colônia portuguesa no Brasil, em comemoração às festas do primeiro centenário da independência, ofereceu esta obra, artística, científica e literária, em gratidão ao povo brasileiro. A ideia de elaborar a obra foi sugerida pela Câmara Portuguesa do Comércio e indústria do Pará, e apresentada no Rio de Janeiro à Grande Comissão Portuguesa pró Pátria. // Eng. about "On the occasion of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the independence of the Portuguese colony in Brazil, this artistic, scientific and literary work as a gift out of gratitude. The Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Pará suggested that the work be elaborated and presented them to the Great Portuguese Commission For the Fatherland in Rio de Janeiro . ""
