Historical Materialism

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Historical Materialism - Research in Critical Marxist Theory is an interdisciplinary Marxist journal published quarterly in London by Brill Verlag .

The journal started in 1995 as a project at the London School of Economics and Political Science . As a result of the project, a group of doctoral students founded the journal Historical Materialism in 1997 . The reason for this was their statement that although interest in neo-Marxism had grown, there was a lack of networked information. The editors are a group of young, relatively unknown scientists and lecturers ( Lecturers , Readers , Assistant Professors ).

The scientific advisory board includes world-famous and Marxist-oriented scientists, including Elmar Altvater (Berlin), Michael Burawoy (Berkeley), Alex Callinicos (London), Mario Candeias (Berlin), Terry Eagleton (Manchester), Maurice Godelier (Paris), David Harvey (New York), Frigga Haug (Esslingen), Wolfgang Fritz Haug (Esslingen), Bob Jessop (Lancaster), Marcel van der Linden (Amsterdam) Antonio Negri (Paris / Venice), Moishe Postone (Chicago), Erik Olin Wright ( Madison).

In a self-presentation, the editors raise the (supplemented) Marxian motto to their motto: "the 'merciless criticism of everything that exists': for us that includes Marxism itself".

Since 2004, an international, multi-day conference on a specific topic has been held in London once a year in November. In addition, a Historical Materialism Book Series is published, which, like the magazine, is published by Brill Verlag. As part of this series, international book chapters are also translated into English. A paperback edition is being made by Haymarket Books.
