Oliver Nachtwey

Oliver Nachtwey (born September 8, 1975 in Unna ) is a German economist and social scientist . He is currently professor for social structure analysis at the University of Basel .

Life

Oliver Nachtwey completed his studies at the University of Hamburg in 2003 with a degree in economics . As a scholarship holder of the German Research Foundation , Oliver Nachtwey conducted research at the DFG Graduate College The Future of the European Social Model at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen , where he received his doctorate in 2008 with the thesis Legitimacy Problems of Market Social Democracy - Political Economy and the Political Semantics of Social Justice . From 2008 to 2010, Nachtwey worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Sociology at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . From 2010 to 2014 he worked at the Department of Economic Sociology at the University of Trier . On October 1, 2014, he moved to the Technical University of Darmstadt . He is also an associated scientist (previously: "Fellow") at the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research . Nachtwey has held the professorship for social structure analysis at the University of Basel since August 2017 .

Oliver Nachtwey is active in social movements and in the criticism of globalization . He regularly writes articles for the newspapers on German and international politics . He also publishes articles in the daily newspaper , in the Junge Welt , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung .

For his book Die Abstiegsgesellschaft (2016), Nachtwey received the Hans Matthöfer Prize for business journalism from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in 2017 .
