Historical Association of the Canton of Schaffhausen
The Historical Association of the Canton of Schaffhausen, registered as the Historical Association of the Canton of Schaffhausen, is a historical association in Switzerland . It was founded in 1856 by Johann Jakob Mezger and Hans Wilhelm Harder (1810–1872) in Schaffhausen as the Historisch-Antiquarischer Verein Schaffhausen .
The association had already become an important institution in Schaffhausen's cultural life in the 19th century. Today the historical association has around 700 members from all walks of life and from the entire Schaffhausen region.
The aim of the association is to promote historical research and to convey history to a wide audience. Lectures as well as full-day and multi-day excursions for club members are offered.
Publications
Every year the Historical Association publishes an illustrated volume entitled Schaffhauser Contributions to History , which reports on the latest research and findings on the history of the Schaffhausen region. The publication began in 1863 under the title Contributions to Patriotic History . In addition to local researchers, well-known scientists and personalities wrote and continue to write articles.
