Hiua Shasuar
Hiua Schasuar (* 1972 in Kurdish Northern Iraq , stage name Schamal ) is a German-Iraqi sculptor .
biography
Schamal studied at the Baghdad Art Academy from 1987 to 1992. After several years of fleeing to Western Europe, he came to Germany. From 2000 to 2006 he studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Micha Ullman, among others . This was followed by an activity as a sculptor and painter. He mainly made children's playgrounds, stage sets and worked in the field of garden design. He founded his museum for contemporary spatial transformation on an open-air site with a scrapyard near Stuttgart's North Station, which had to give way to Stuttgart 21 in 2011 .
"Birds of Peace" project
Since 2004 Schamal has been producing a series of works of art under the title "Peace Birds". The artist processes the experience of air and poison gas attacks in his youth. The sculptures are supposed to surprise, stimulate the imagination and represent a visible symbol of peace. Since the artist obtained his materials from a neighboring junkyard for several years, birds of peace exist in a wide variety of materials. In the more recent works, wooden or aluminum constructions were increasingly used, which were wrapped in foil. LED light chains are also often installed in the properties. By advising the Institute for Aircraft Construction at the University of Stuttgart (in particular Rudolf Voit-Nitschmann), works of art that are suitable for air travel are to be created that the artist would one day want to fly over his Iraqi homeland and possibly other crisis regions. As a consciously interdisciplinary project, art, science, politics and imagination are to be brought together.
