Hlavné námestie (German Hauptplatz ) is the central square in the old town ( Staré Mesto ) of Bratislava . It is bordered at one end by Sedlárska ulica ( Sattlergasse ) and at the other by Františkánske námestie ( Franciscan Square), which formed a unit with the main square until the beginning of the 18th century.

General

The square is surrounded by historical buildings and palaces, the most important of which is the Old Town Hall , built in the 14th century . Other sights are the Maximiliansbrunnen (incorrectly called Rolandsbrunnen), the secessionist Roland-Palais , the neo-baroque Palugyay-Palais , the Esterházy-Palais (ergo the former Kutscherfeld-Palais ) and the Stadthalterpalais .
