Hlebine |
Hlebine is a village in the Croatian historical region Podravina (Drautal), 13 km east of Koprivnica with 1,304 inhabitants (2011 census).
Hlebine is known as the home of Croatian naive art ( School of Naive Art of Hlebine ), which has gained recognition all over the world thanks to numerous exhibitions of its representatives. The beginnings of this direction go back to an experiment by the painter Krsto Hegedušić around 1930. At that time he tried to bring painting closer to a group of farmers who had no academic background; Ivan Generalić and Franjo Mraz soon stood out among them . The farmers took up his tempera painting technique on glass and thus helped the old Baroque style of painting behind glass to new life.
