The Hobnail Peak is a mountain in the shape of a triangular cliff in East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises immediately south of Mount Tricouni on the eastern flank of the Skelton Glacier .
It was mapped and named in 1957 by the New Zealand crew of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958). It is named after its similarity to a so-called hobnail , a form of a shoe nail used in mountain boots .
