The Hochmeisterplatz is a block square in Berlin-Halensee on Westfälische Strasse, near Kurfürstendamm and the Schaubühne on Lehniner Platz .

history

The square was renamed in 1892 from its then name "Buchwaldplatz" to Hochmeisterplatz. Before 1930, Erwin Barth laid out a green area with a children's playground . His plans also included a sunbathing lawn at a lower level and woodland plantings on the streets, which were not completed and expanded until 1936 by Richard Thieme . In 1959/60 seats were added to the ensemble by Eberhard Fink. In 2015 the old concrete skeleton building of the post office was demolished by Bauwert AG. Since 2017, the AG has been building a building with 110 apartments and 11,000 m² of living space on the northern border of the green between Nestor and Cicerostraße. The topping-out ceremony for the new building was celebrated in April 2019. The apartments should be ready for occupancy in spring 2021. The investor also stated that he would redesign the Hochmeisterplatz green space at his own expense.

description

The rectangular block space is delimited by nine streets. The square is characterized by its sunbathing lawn, which is designed undulating to prevent football matches. Asphalted paths run through the greenery on it. On the southern side there are two sports fields and a children's playground, which stands out from the ensemble with its oval shape. The Hochmeisterkirche is also in the same direction, but across the street . To the north, the square opens up to the former post office building, where the residential complex is being built.

On Tuesdays and Fridays there is a weekly market in the adjacent Nestorstrasse.
