The raised bog blue-green alga ( Cyanothece aeruginosa ) is a type of cyanobacteria (Cyanobacteria). The cells are 10 to 40 micrometers wide, 12 to 50 micrometers long, blue-green, cylindrical to ellipsoidal and have no sheaths. They are usually single, rarely in pairs. The swelling of excreted jelly allows the species to move slowly. The raised bog blue-green alga occurs individually or in blue-green approaches on wet heather soils, peat moss , damp moss and wet stones.

Cyanothece aeruginosa is the type species of the genus Cyanothece .
