The Hochschulforum Digitisierung (HFD) is a publicly funded think tank that deals with higher education in the digital age. It is a project of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft , the Center for University Development (CHE) and the University Rectors' Conference (HRK). The HFD sees itself as an "independent national platform" to identify current issues relating to the digitization of higher education and to discuss them across the region.

The University Forum Digitization is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It started work in March 2014. The office of the Hochschulforum Digitization is located at the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft in Berlin. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung described the HFD as an "academic think tank under the patronage of the BMBF". According to its own definition, the HFD "orchestrates" the discourse on higher education in the digital age ".
