Wedding at Cana (Villeneuve-d'Ascq)
The tapestry Wedding at Cana in the Church of St-Pierre in Villeneuve-d'Ascq , a town in the Nord department in the Hauts-de-France region , was created in 1735. The tapestry was added to the list of listed buildings ( Base Palissy ) in France in 1906 as Monument historique .
The 5.40 meter wide and 3.50 meter high picture knitting made of linen thread was produced by Guillaume Werniers in Lille , who signed it with his name. It is part of six tapestries in the former church of St-Sauveur in Lille, which were made from boxes by Joseph Wamps . Four of the previously six tapestries are still preserved. Two are in the Lille museum and one in the Fresnes church .
The tapestry depicting the wedding at Cana was probably given to the church in Ascq by the Abbé Laurent de Roques (1720–1785).
