history

The roots of today's company lie in the engineering office founded by Hanns Hörbiger and Friedrich Wilhelm Rogler in Budapest , which was relocated to Vienna in 1903 . From this the trading company Hoerbiger & Co developed in 1925 . Alfred Hörbiger, one of Hörbiger's sons, joined the company in 1925 and took over management, while Hanns Hörbiger devoted himself to scientific studies until his death in 1931.

Under the management of Alfred Hörbiger, the company developed rapidly until the mid-1940s and became a leading manufacturer of valve and control technology for compressors. In 1945 the main plant in Vienna-Simmering was largely destroyed, along with parts of the company's intellectual property. Production could, however, be continued in alternative workshops.

Alfred Hörbiger died in July 1945. After his death, his widow Martina Hörbiger took over management of the company. In 1958, Hoerbiger entered drive technology and in 1972 also automation technology. The company received the state award as early as 1967 and has since been allowed to use the Austrian federal coat of arms in business transactions.

After Martina Hörbiger's death in 1989, the company was reorganized. All activities have been combined in a holding company , which is majority owned by the Hoerbiger Foundation in Zug. Martina Hörbiger founded this in Basel before her death. The three company divisions of Compression Technology, Automation Technology and Drive Technology were created from the reorganization.

In 1997, Hoerbiger Holding AG was founded as an operational holding company in Switzerland. Since then, it has set the long-term strategic framework.

In 2007 Hoerbiger took over the Oberstenfeld location of the automotive supplier Getrag . As Hoerbiger SynchronTechnik GmbH, the plant was integrated into the drive technology division.

The Hoerbiger-Origa pneumatic division was sold to the American Parker-Hannifin in October 2008 .

In 2009, Hoerbiger bought Altronic, Inc. in Girard, Ohio , USA. The Compression Technology division continues to operate Altronic as a sub-brand.

The pneumatic seating comfort systems division was sold to the French Faurecia in October 2010 .
