The Basten farm is a farm in Itzehoe founded in the 18th century .

history

The land originally belonged to the city of Itzehoe, which, however, had left it deserted. She auctioned it in 1731 to the highest bidder brothers Peter and Johann Ehlers. They built a house there in 1732. Peter Ehlers left the joint project as early as 1735, and Johann Ehlers managed the farm from then on as the sole owner. In a legal dispute in 1777, Johann compared himself with the city of Itzehoe to the effect that he was given more land to compensate for the lack of grazing rights on urban pastures, so that the Basten farm now expanded to an area of around 34 hectares.

When Johann Ehlers died in 1786, he left behind six children, of whom his son Johann Hinrich, born in 1754, took over the farm in 1785. Johann Hinrich Ehlers was married three times; The farm was inherited by his son Hans from his first marriage. Hans was married twice and had five children, all of them from his first marriage. After his death in 1866, his youngest son Hans (junior) inherited the farm when he turned 30 in 1868. Hans Ehlers junior married in 1868. In 1879, Hans had the house built in 1732 replaced by a new building and from 1889 onwards the farm was restricted to livestock farming. When Hans Ehlers junior died in 1903, his son Wilhelm inherited the farm from his seven children. Wilhelm exchanged land with the city, so that the farm now covered approx. 35 hectares. He was given land with gravel deposits, which he exploited, while the city had the land he received in return, which was located in the city forest, reforested.

Todays situation

In 2010, the Basten farm comprised around 75 hectares of land owned by Hans-Wilhelm Ehlers and his wife Ellen, who have been running the farm in the seventh generation since 1981. The farm consisted of a dairy farm with grassland, maize and grain; arable farming has meanwhile been reduced, while dairy farming continues. Holiday apartments have also been rented out since 2005 and they are integrated into the city's tourism concept; however, an extension to include holiday homes could not be implemented for several years. In the meantime, however, another building has been built that is used for gastronomy. In addition, a swing golf business was created with a 5 hectare swing golf course. On the site of the former Bundeswehr shooting range to the northeast of Hof Basten, another company was established in 2009 with Eva Maria Penzlin's Basten riding stables .

After the end of the Schmabek and Pünstorf estates, the Basten farm is one of the last six farms in Edendorf and the Frahm farm in Bellerkrug, alongside the Schmabek poultry farm , the Klosterholz farm , the Vock farm on Alte Landstraße, the Stahl farm on Untere Dorfstraße in Edendorf and the Frahm farm in Bellerkrug Itzehoe.
