Location and surroundings

The farm is located on the northern outskirts of Großwinternheim. Immediately to the east is Freie Platz, to the south the former main road (Obentrautstrasse).

history

From the 16th century onwards, the building was owned by the noble family Obentraut, who provided the Oberschultheißen of Großwinternheim. Most of the current features of the stately renaissance building date from the 16th and 17th centuries. During the Reformation , the local Catholics held their services in the court chapel, which is no longer in existence. The tithe barn was also incorporated into the building. In 1733 it was sold to the Speyer Cathedral Chapter.

architecture

The building is a massive plastered building with two floors and a characteristic stepped gable and gable roof. On the eastern front there is a round stair tower, closed inside by a pressed cloister vault , on the outside the tower is crowned by a French dome . The north wing, which was originally used as a barn, is equipped with barrel vaults and a round-arched exit to the courtyard; it was raised in the 19th century. Towards the courtyard it has a gabled pilaster portal . The southern and older part has a flat-roofed cellar. The wooden door leaves and the front door leaf date from the 19th century. The sandstone frames of the Renaissance windows are also preserved.
