(Quote from the museum)

The museum is based on a collection of manuscripts by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben, which was acquired in 1928 from the estate of his son Franz Hoffmann-Fallersleben (1855–1928).

The personality, life and work of Hoffmann von Fallersleben are presented against the background of his origins, his family and the political circumstances from 1879 to 1848 and in the further course of the 19th century. Numerous exhibits such as originals of his publications, but also games, sound carriers and text panels testify to his work as a literary researcher, librarian and poet. Light-sensitive originals are kept in drawers that can be pulled out by visitors for viewing.

In addition to many public events, the Hoffmann-von-Fallersleben Museum also offers a museum educational service. Groups of ten or more can register for guided tours and museum educational programs on the following topics:

  • Life and work of the poet and
  • his 19th century lifetime, which was so important for the intellectual and political development of Germany, in current special exhibitions.

After several years of complete redesign and redesign, the museum has been open again since 2014. Admission is free.
