Hofmühle (Dresden)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Hofmühle is used in and around Dresden to refer to three former grinding mills .

It was the endeavor in particular of the Elector August (r. 1553–1586) to place the bread grain supply under state supervision and who for this purpose acquired several mills in and around Dresden . They carried titles after the Saxon ruling house and were operated by a "Hofmüller", later a "Hofmühlenlächter". At the latest in the 19th century they passed into private ownership.

These included

  • the former court mill in Plauenschen Grund , often called Bienertmühle after the later owner family (closed in 1990, mill ensemble preserved),
  • the no longer existing Hofmühle am Weißeritzmühlgraben , which was located in Dresden opposite the Annenkirche and which was shut down in 1927 (destroyed in 1945, former location difficult to find) and
  • the Hofmühle Potschappel (also known as Hofemühle ) in the urban area of today's city of Freital .
