The Castle Neukirchen an der Enknach is a former moated castle with Hofmark in the flow loop of Enknach in the municipality of Neukirchen an der Enknach . It was removed in 1830 and its material became a. the rectory built.

history

The first documentary mention comes from 1180 with Hartmanus de Nivenchirchen . After that Neukirchen was owned by the Apfentalter between 1339 and 1529. During this time the residence was probably converted into a castle. 1500 a Sigmund Apfenthaler is mentioned in Newchirichen. With Hans von Apfenthal, this sex died out in the male line. A daughter, Euphrosinia von Apfenthal, married the noble Balthasar von Thannhausen; he died in 1560. Euphrosinia had to pledge the property to the Gleinitz from Styria. In 1568 they bought the castle and Hofmark and are named as owners until 1600. Baron von Töring-Jettenbach followed them. In 1639 Anna Franziska married Colonel Jacob du Puich (deceased 1650) from the Lower Bavarian noble family of the Puecher von Walkersdorf. The marriage remained childless and the property returned to the Törings. In 1674, Count von Töring sold the castle to the Ranshofen monastery . The Ranshofen provost Benno Meier (1665–1687) had a theological college built in the castle.

The castle subsequently served as a vicarage. Among the Törrings are mentioned: Maria Anna Theresia, daughter of Albrecht von Töring, and Franz Albert Josef von Töring, son of Albrecht and carer at Wildshut Castle . In 1811 the castle came back to the Ranshofen monastery .

Neukirchen Castle today

The castle has been demolished since 1830. When comparing the copper engraving by Michael Wening with the current situation, it is evident that the municipal office of Neukirchen an der Enknach is also at the site of the former castle. Due to the previously very extensive location of the castle and Hofmark, it is not unlikely that today's rectory, which was built with the material of the castle, is also located on the former castle grounds with ancillary buildings. Whether the masonry from the earlier system is still upright and has been used must first be verified through excavations .
